2024 Laurie Stepto Scholarship | Applications Open

The Laurie Stepto Scholarship is an annual award provided by the Laurie Stepto Trust to an aspiring New South Wales based rower to commemorate the great contribution of Laurie Stepto to the sport of rowing to ensure that his name and legacy live on.

The Laurie Stepto Scholarship provides the successful candidate a cash award totalling $5,000 over a two year period to continue his or her competitive rowing career, particularly with the objective of achieving success in championship racing with their club as well as representing NSW and possibly Australia in interstate and international competition.

Candidates must have completed year 12 and be eligible to compete in under 21 competition in the current and following years’ regatta seasons.

The awarding and continuance of the Laurie Stepto Scholarship for the period of the scholarship is conditional upon the awardee being an active member of a rowing club affiliated with RNSW, registered as a competitor for their club with RNSW, resident in NSW and continuing to compete for his or her club in regattas on the RNSW regatta calendar. During the course of the scholarship if the awardee no longer meets these criteria the remainder of the scholarship may be withdrawn without notice at the sole discretion of the trustees.

In your application please tell the trustees about yourself, your past rowing experiences and future ambitions. Your application must include the following:

• Your previous achievements in rowing including your record of competition over the current and previous two seasons (school years 11 and 12).
• An insight into your ambitions in the sport of rowing and how you propose to go about achieving them.
• References from your coaches, both past and present.

Review of applicants will be conducted by a panel of three persons appointed by the trustees of the Laurie Stepto Trust.

The successful applicant will be awarded by the trustees at the Rowing NSW Annual Presentation Dinner in June 2024.
