Notification of Casual Vacancy on the Rowing NSW Board
Published Tue 02 Jun 2026
Dear Rowing New South Wales Constituent Members
Following the appointment of Stephen Handley OAM to the Rowing Australia Board, Stephen has resigned from his position as Deputy President of Rowing NSW. Under the Rowing Australia Constitution, a Rowing Australia Director cannot also hold office with a Member Association.
In accordance with clause 35 of the Rowing NSW Constitution, Stephen’s resignation creates a casual vacancy on the Rowing NSW Board in the office of Deputy President.
RNSW now invites Constituent Members to nominate Registered Members to fill this casual vacancy. Each Constituent Member may nominate one Registered Member as a candidate for the vacancy.
Nominations must be submitted, via the Casual Vacancy Nomination Form to the RNSW office by email to ceo@rowingnsw.asn.au by 5.00pm on Tuesday 23 June 2026.
Following the close of nominations, the Rowing NSW Board will appoint a Registered Member from among the nominees in accordance with clause 35 of the Constitution. The appointment will occur no earlier than 21 days and no later than 42 days after this notification.
The person appointed to fill the vacancy will hold office until the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting in October 2027, being the point at which Stephen’s term would otherwise have concluded.
Constituent Members are encouraged to consider nominating suitable candidates who have the skills, experience and capacity to contribute to the strategic direction, governance and leadership of Rowing NSW.
The Board thanks Stephen for his outstanding and sustained service to Rowing NSW and looks forward to his continued contribution to the sport through his new role with Rowing Australia.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely
Melissa Ashton-Garard
Rowing NSW, CEO and Secretary to the Board
