Rowing NSW is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Peter Crawford.   A Partner at Sydney accountancy firm VJ Ryan and Co., Peter served as Auditor for the NSW Rowing Association for more than a decade until 2011.

Vale Doug Donoghue AM

Doug Donoghue AM has died at his home in Edgecliff, aged 86. Doug had a life-long association with rowing, starting as a coxswain, rower and coach at Sydney High, and a coach at Sydney Rowing Club, and held numerous Board and committee roles at the club, including, for many years, Vice-President of the club and Chairman of the Finance Committee where his business experience as a senior executive at Ampol was of great value. He was awarded the club’s Honour Blazer in 1982.

JB Sharp Series 2022 - BMG Aviation Junior Scholarships - Applications Now Open

JB Sharp Series BMG Aviation Scholarships are restricted to boys and girls under 18 years in their first 2 years of rowing. Competing clubs and schools may submit a maximum of two written submissions for boys and two written submissions for girls listing performances in last year’s Sharp Regattas and the first four regattas of this years Series.   Both single sculling and crew performances will be evaluated.

Vale - Pauline Coates (nee Kahl) - Sydney University, Sydney Rowing Club, Roseville College, Women's College and Shore School

We regret to inform that Pauline Coates (née Kahl) has passed away Monday 11th July following a short battle with cancer, aged 65. Pauline rowed for Sydney University through the late 70s and was presented a Blue in 1978. She represented NSW that year in the Women's Four and was a member of the Australian Rowing Team at the 1978 World Championships and 1980 Moscow Olympic Games.

I asked my skin cancer specialist, neighbour and close friend Dr. Peter Kim MBBS FRACGP FACCS to send me something on skin cancer and rowers and he obliged with the following:- “Rowing is a popular outdoor sport that takes place during the peak UV Radiation season. In September 2021, the University of Otago published an interesting study to quantify the real-time solar UVR exposure experienced by high school rowers during competition.

Lionel Robberds AM QC - New Challenge

Lionel and Sandra have been advised that Lionel is in “post early stages of Alzheimer's Disease”, but will continue to address his future with the same tenacity he has always shown.  We wish both Lionel and Sandra best wishes from the Leichhardt membership and the wider rowing community throughout Australia.
