The 2026 World Rowing Championships have wrapped up in Amsterdam, and our NSW Rowsellas were part of some record-beating performances across an intense week of racing:

Silver - Women's Four
Georgie Rowe (UTS) stroked this crew to a powerful silver, going faster than the previous World Best time in an outstanding race. This crew also featured 2026 Sprint Eliminator champion Giorgia Patten (WA).

Silver - PR1 Men's Single
Erik Horrie (Sydney) just does not let up. Another strong race against a deep field saw him claim his ninth career World Championships medal, and first silver.

Bronze - Men's Eight
With NSW athletes Alex Nichol (Sydney) and Nick Dunlop (cox, Sydney) on board, this crew finished just 0.53 seconds behind the Netherlands to win bronze in one of the races of the regatta. They went under the previous World Best time to become the fastest Australian Men's Eight ever.

4th - Women's Quad
Stroked by Emily Sheppard (SUBC), this crew challenged the race leaders early and finished in a well-rowed 4th. The crew also featured 2026 Sprint Eliminator competitor Romy Cantwell (Victoria).

5th - PR3 Mixed Coxed Four
In a close and high-quality A Final, Hannah Cowap (Sydney) coxed this crew to a well-fought 5th place.

7th - Women's Eight
Unlucky to miss the A Final after a close heat, this crew featuring Laura Gourley (UTS), Jaime Ford (SUBC) and Samantha Morton (Sydney) bounced back to win the B Final.

8th - Women's Single
After a year away from the world stage, Tara Rigney (Mosman) showed her class to finish 2nd in the B Final and 8th overall.

8th - Men's Quad
Making their World Championships debuts, Hamish Danks (SUBC) and Marcus Della Marta (SUBC) helped this crew to 2nd in the B Final and 8th overall.

10th - Men's Four
Featuring Nik Pender (UTS) and Paddy Holt (UTS, Qld), this crew finished fourth in the B Final and 10th overall.

Well done to all our NSW Rowsellas. Just making it to the start line of a World Championship regatta is a titanic achievement, and we are so proud of all of you. We can't wait to see you at SIRC this season!

The 2026 Australian & Oceania Beach Sprints Championships kicked off on the Gold Coast yesterday, and NSW athletes have already made their mark.

In the Women's Solo, it was an all-Sydney Rowing Club A Final between Isabella Scammell and Catherine Khan. Both athletes are Rowing NSW Sprint Eliminator alumni, Scammell having won the first edition, and indeed she took out the A Final to claim the first NSW gold of the regatta.

In the Men's Solo, Mosman's Oscar Scheel-Gamborg posted the fastest time in the time trial, eventually making it to the A Final, where he finished with silver. Scheel-Gamborg is also a Sprint Eliminator alumnus.

Congratulations to these athletes and good luck to those racing over the weekend!

Looking for a new way to Get Involved in rowing in 2026-27? Become a Boat Race Official and get the best seat in the house!

Whether you’re a parent, coach, athlete, volunteer, or simply someone who loves rowing and wants to contribute, becoming a BRO is one of the most rewarding experiences our sport has to offer. No rowing experience required!

Officiate at any regatta across the NSW season and help racing run smoothly - you nominate your availability, so the role offers total flexibility.

All you need to do to start your journey is complete the Level 1 Boat Race Official course. It's completely free and is a great introduction to officiating, covering the fundamentals you need to Get Involved.

Welcome to Masters Corner, a brand new community-driven eNewsletter feature for the 2026-27 season! Here we'll showcase submissions and highlights from our wonderful Masters community across NSW, whether they happen on or off the water.

This month, we're spotlighting the recent Novice Women's Training Day hosted by the NSW Union of Oarswomen at Endeavour Rowing Club. 16 women were a part of this fantastic day of learning the sport and making connections. One entry unlocks four championship races, three challenge events, two relays and every metre you row along the way.

Stack your best 1 Minute, 500m, 1K and 2K into your Stack (500 Stack shirts up for grabs). Go further with The Lot. Row for your team, your affiliation, your name on the national board. Eligible Australians can chase an AIRC title inside the same entry, no extra fee.

The new Rowing NSW Club & School Handbooks for the 2026-27 season are now available.

Designed as practical guides for club & school rowing programs, the handbooks bring together key information about participation, membership, affiliation, regatta entry, safety, governance and the roles and responsibilities of clubs & schools and Rowing NSW.

We encourage all club committees, Heads of Rowing, Directors of Sport, coaches and school administrators to read the handbooks ahead of the new season and use them as a reference throughout 2026-27.

Rowing NSW extends its congratulations to Peter Fredricson, NSW's latest Boat Race Official to pass the Level 3 Accreditation and becoming a Rowing Australia Umpire. 

Level 3 Accreditation enables an umpire to serve on the jury for national championship regattas conducted by Rowing Australia, and requires a nomination from the relevant State Rowing Association and approval by the board of Rowing Australia.

Rowing NSW is pleased to announce that Nick Baker has joined the Board as a Director, filling the casual vacancy arising from David Cameron’s appointment as Deputy President.

Nick brings significant finance, investment and commercial expertise through his role as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Investment Officer at Lighter Capital. Nick holds an MBA with honours from Cornell University, and a Bachelor in Economics from the University of Tasmania. His experience will strengthen the Board’s financial capability and complement the skills and experience of its existing Directors. 

The appointment followed a competitive process that attracted a strong field of high-quality candidates. In considering the nominations, the Board had regard to its skills matrix and the capabilities most valuable to Rowing NSW as it continues to deliver its strategic priorities.

Nick also brings a deep understanding of rowing. A former Australian representative, he won silver in the lightweight men’s eight at the 2010 World Championships before becoming a World Champion in 2011. He also achieved considerable success at the national level, winning multiple Australian Championship titles during his rowing career. During his time on the National team, Nick was a member of Rowing Australia’s Athletes Commission.

Nick’s combination of financial expertise, senior executive experience and first-hand knowledge of the sport will be a valuable addition to the Board.

Rowing NSW congratulates Nick on his appointment and looks forward to his contribution to the organisation and the wider NSW rowing community.
