Mr Stephen James Handley OAM (NSW) for service to rowing

Rowing NSW extends its heartfelt congratulations to our Deputy President, Stephen Handley, on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2025 King's Birthday Honours List.

Steve's remarkable journey in rowing began during his school years at Newington College, leading to a distinguished career as a fifteen-time national champion, World Championship representative, and Olympian. He represented Australia in the Men's Eight at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, achieving a commendable fifth-place finish. 

Beyond his athletic achievements, Steve has made significant contributions off the water. He has served as Club Captain and currently as Vice-President of Sydney Rowing Club, and holds the position of Deputy President at Rowing NSW. His dedication extends to the national level, representing New South Wales on the Rowing Australia Council. 

Steve's unwavering commitment to rowing, both as an administrator and athlete, has profoundly impacted the sport in New South Wales and across Australia. This honour is a testament to his enduring passion and service to the rowing community.
