Triumphs for Interstate Team and clubs at AMRC26 in WA
Last week, NSW clubs made the long journey to WA to aim for national glory at the 2026 Australian Masters Rowing Championships.
There were plenty of standout individual performances across four days of racing, with Daniela Borgert of Leichhardt Rowing Club taking home a 12-medal haul as NSW's top Athlete Point Score finisher. Our clubs performed strongly - Manning River Rowing Club and Leichhardt Rowing Club finished in the Point Score Top 10, with Mosman Rowing Club and St George Rowing Club doing the same on the medal table.
Our Interstate team donned the Waratah and delivered a strong suite of performances. Kevin Wall showed he's here to stay in the PR3 Men's Single, defending his title from 2025. A strong row from the Women's Quad saw them claim silver, while the Men's Quad and Stephanie Walker in the PR3 Women's Single both took bronzes. Both eights were competitive amid strong fields, just missing the podium in fourth.
Well done to all our Masters athletes and coaches, as well as off-water supporters, for a phenomenal year of racing. We can't wait to welcome you all back to NSW for the 2026-27 season!

Perfect conditions as NSW Masters entries surge
The 2026 NSW Masters Championships wrapped up our NSW racing calendar earlier in May. With over 600 athletes from across the country competing, this year's edition was once again the biggest since Covid, a wonderful testament to the strength of Masters rowing.
On the water, two of NSW's powerhouse Masters clubs topped the medal table after the two days of racing, Mosman with 17.25 golds edging North Shore with 11.5 golds. While Mosman and North Shore battled, it was Gregor O'Nians from Melbourne who topped the individual medal table with an incredible 10 medals - including 7 golds!
All in all, 32 clubs took home a share of at least one gold medal, and we thank the interstate clubs who helped contribute to the high standard of competition.
Congratulations again to all our Masters athletes, coaches and supporters on a fantastic season.

Stephen Handley elected to Rowing Australia board; casual vacancy on RNSW board
Rowing NSW advises that Stephen Handley OAM has stepped down from his role as Deputy President and Director of Rowing NSW following his election to the Rowing Australia Board.
Stephen’s election to the national board is a significant recognition of his extension knowledge of the sport, his long-standing service to rowing, and the respect he holds across the rowing community in New South Wales and nationally.
Stephen has made an outstanding contribution to Rowing NSW, serving as a Director since 2007 and Deputy President since 2017. During this time, he has played a significant role in the governance, competition structure, coaching and the strategic direction of rowing in NSW.
In accordance with clause 35 of the Rowing NSW Constitution, Stephen’s resignation creates a casual vacancy on the Rowing NSW Board in the office of Deputy President.

Congratulations to Tim McLaren OAM, Rowing Australia's latest Life Member
Rowing NSW congratulates Tim McLaren OAM, recently endorsed by the Rowing Australia Board, the past Presidents of Rowing Australia, and the Member Associations as a Life Member of Rowing Australia.
Life Membership stands as one of the highest honours within Rowing Australia, awarded only to individuals whose contribution to the sport spans more than a decade and has had a lasting national impact. Tim has shaped Australian and international rowing across multiple generations.
An Olympic Silver medallist in the Men’s Quadruple Scull at the 1984 Olympic Games, McLaren transitioned into coaching and quickly established himself as one of the sport’s leading high-performance minds.
From building Tasmania’s early high-performance systems to coaching Australia’s Men’s Double Scull to Olympic Gold in 1992, his influence has been both immediate and enduring.
His leadership at UTS Haberfield Rowing Club produced dozens of Olympians and multiple Olympic medals, while his tenure as Head Coach of the US Men’s National Team further cemented his global reputation.
Congratulations, Tim! read more > |
