COMPETITOR INSTRUCTIONS
REGATTA OFFICE: The regatta office will be located on the ground floor of the Finish Tower and will be open from Thursday 8th October.
ELIGIBILITY: Each competitor must be eligible to compete with respect to the Rules governing competition.
Substitutes/Crew Changes, including coxswains, must be advised in writing to the Organising Committee at the Regatta Office on an official Substitution Form at least one hour before the first race of the event.
No change in personnel of a crew is permitted between the heat and the final of an event except on medical grounds.
No substitute is permitted for a single sculler. Refer RA Rule 50 and 51.
Withdrawals: Crews or scullers not intending to race must lodge an official Withdrawal Form with the Organising Committee at the Regatta Office no less than two hours prior to the scheduled start time for the race.
A withdrawal once made is irrevocable. Refer RA Rule 49.
Substitution & Withdrawal Forms
ACCREDITATION:
The Sydney 2009 World Masters Games Organising Committee (SWMGOC) wishes to advise all competitors, team personnel and accompanying persons
that all accreditation passes for the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games MUST be collected from the Games Centre, in Sydney Olympic Park.
There will be no special pass collection area situated at the Rowing venue (SIRC).
Please allow enough time in your schedule to collect your pass before competition commences.
All participants across 28 sports are required to come to Sydney Olympic Park to collect their accreditation, regardless of where their venue is located.
The Games Centre is located at the Dome, Sydney Showground and will be open each day from Wednesday 7 October 2009.

MARSHALLING:
Crews will be required to assemble in race order prior to entering the Competition Lake.
Marshalls will be located at several points on both the Warm Up Lake and Competition Lake.
Competitors will be called through the bridge and proceed down Lane 10 towards the 2000m start,
complete any warm up in the area immediately below the marshalling area in their allocated lane
and be in the start marshall's hands 15 minutes prior to their race.
All rowing in Lane 10 is to be at light pressure only and low rate. Any crew detected in contravention will receive a yellow card.
No return to the 2000m start will be permitted within the warm up zone.
Crews will be marshaled in race order and then handed over to the aligner and starter.
Competitors should pay particular attention to the alpha-numeric bow number system for purposes of marshalling in the correct race.

LANE/BOW NUMBERS:
Alpha Numeric bow numbers will be the official numbers to be used throughout this regatta. They will be available at the commencement of each session from the eastern end of Boatshed 1 - a refundable deposit of AUD$10 is payable. We urge all competitors to return their bow number as soon as possible after each race.
START:
At the Start, lane #1 is on the LEFT hand side looking from the start to the finish.
The start signal and recall signal will be by horn blast.
The Starter will advise the procedure for starting.
Crews will be dispatched by the starter saying "attention" (red light) followed simultaneously by the yellow light and a sound signal.
The Umpire's signal to stop rowing will be the waving of a red flag.
All crews must report to the Start Marshall (behind the start and on the course) 15 minutes before their race and accept the Start Marshall's
direction on how to proceed to the start platform, i.e, proceed to the start via the lane allocated to them in the draw.
All crews must be in the starter's control 5 minutes before their event. Latecomers will not be allowed on to the course.
FINISH:
The first crew to cross the finish line will receive a horn blast, other crews crossing the line will also be acknowledged by the finish horn.
FINALS
for events will be conducted in the order laid down in the regatta program, unless otherwise announced by the regatta commentator.
SAFETY AND EQUIPMENT:
Bow balls of an approved type must be securely fitted to the bow of each competing boat; no boat will be permitted to start in breach of this rule.
Crews should also ensure heels of shoes are properly tied down where applicable.
Boats are liable to random safety checks both on and off the water.
No boat shall carry radio or telephone equipment capable of sending or receiving messages.
WEIGH-IN: COXSWAINS:
All coxswains are required to weigh in no later than one hour prior to their first event and may weigh in up to 24 hours before their first event.
The Referee may request coxswains carrying weights to present their weights for re-weigh following their race.
When instructed to be weighed, crews must immediately proceed to the specified place for the coxswain's weights to be check weighed.
Coxswains must carry sufficient lead or other metallic weight (no water bottles, bricks or sand bags) to exceed the minimum weight when wearing a rowing suit.
Refer RA Rule 16 and 17.
Underweight Coxswains will be provided with a wristband indicating they are carrying dead weight which we trust will be easily identifiable by Umpires.
DO NOT ROW TO THE START ON THE COURSE:
or obstruct racing in any way - penalty for breach of the traffic regulations is a yellow card or disqualification from the regatta.
No crew is permitted to warm down or train on the course during the scheduled racing periods.
No speedboats (other than those engaged by the regatta rganizers for use by the Boat Race Officials) are permitted on the course or warm up lake.
COURSE CLOSURE & TRAINING:
The regatta course will be closed to all crews who are not proceeding to the start of their event,
30 minutes before the commencement of each day's racing. Crews violating this directive will be awarded a yellow card or will be disqualified from the regatta.
Traffic on the warm up lake and on the course during training will be as per Traffic Flow maps located on Notice Boards around the venue.
COACHES INSTRUCTIONS:
All cyclists are required to follow races on the northern side of the course travelling in a clockwise fashion from 100m above the start to the barrier located 200m from the finish along the "low road" and returning to the start on the "high road".
NO BICYCLES WILL BE PERMITTED IN THE 200 METRE FINISH AREAS.
All cyclists are required to wear safety helmets. Only official vehicles are permitted to drive to the start on the either side of the course or use the media roadway .
No coaching boats are permitted at SIRC.
No coaches or spectators are permitted within 100 metres of the starting / aligning precinct when the 1000 metre starts is in operation.
PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES:
Presentation of medals will take place on the presentation dais commencing 30 minutes after the discharge of the first final of the session
by the Umpire and Judge. Successful competitors must return their boat to the boatpark and then walk across to the Presentation Area
and present their accreditation/identification to the staff for certification prior to presentation of medals.
MEDICAL FACILITIES:
Emergency medical care will be provided by SWMGOC medical staff. Duty doctors will be in attendance at the Medical Centre to the west of the Finish Tower.
DRUG TESTING:
Competitors may be required to undergo testing to detect the presence of any performance enhancing substance in accordance with the Australian Sports Drug Agency Act 1990 (as amended). Failure to submit to a drug test will result in immediate disqualification.
FAIRNESS COMMITTEE:
Any decision to postpone or cancel the regatta due to inclement weather or unforeseen conditions will be made by the fairness committee in accordance with RA Rule 64.1 and By Law to Rule 64.
