Sally Kehoe has given Queensland the ideal start to the Interstate Regatta as the 2009 Hydro Tasmania Australian Rowing Championships draw to a close at Lake Barrington, Tasmania.
The Interstate Regatta features eight races that combine to decide the champion state and winner of the Rowing Australia Cup.
Kehoe won her second Interstate women’s single scull title with a composed display. She entered the race as favourite, having earlier in the week been crowned national champion.
An explosive start saw Kehoe burst to the lead after 500m and she never looked back to cross the line in a time of 7:46.46. Victoria’s Lisa Szatsznajder finished in second place, with ACT’s Sarah Cook third.
Kehoe, shortly after receiving the Nell Slatter Trophy, said that representing Queensland was always an honour.
“To win both single events this week has been great and the Interstate Regatta is a really fun way to finish the week off,” Kehoe said. “There is always a real buzz winning a title for Queensland.”
Kehoe had previously won the Nell Slatter Trophy in 2005 and will stroke the Queensland crew in the Queen’s Cup later this afternoon.
