Vale: Gene Mason

Nov 14, 2016

Rowers will be sad to hear that Gene Mason died last September aged 73, after a long illness.

Dearly loved and cherished husband of Carole. Loved father of Joanne, Linda, Anna, Lisa. Much loved and sadly missed by all who knew him.

Gene started rowing with Glebe, before moving to Balmain where he teamed with Frank Gardner rowing Juniors with great success.

Gene transferred to Haberfield at the end of the 60's and went on to win the Champion Eights of NSW. and won Bronze in the Coxless Four at ARC 1974.

He was acknowledged as one of the great characters of rowing, and was a gentle giant who loved to play whenever the opportunity presented itself.

May he Rest in Peace
